You may have heard the saying, “Where God guides, He provides”. This is certainly true in my case. I kept hearing this “still, small voice” that I have come to know as the Holy Spirit telling me to go back to school. I already had two master’s degrees and did not know what I would get a doctorate in or where. It had been 10 years since my last degree, so I was terrified to go.
A few years past, and I was promoted in my job to a building that shared a parking lot with a graduate school. My employer suggested I take a look at what they had to offer. When I walked on that black asphalt, it looked like deep, ocean water because I was so afraid to go back to school. The Holy Spirit woke me up that morning early and told me, “Go back to school, curriculum, young people, it will be difficult.” Of the three doctoral programs they offered, one was a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction! I enrolled!
My first semester was paid for since I was an employee. However, I was let go and received unemployment for six months. It was during this time that I was crying out to God because I needed rent and tuition. My cell phone rang, and it was a couple I had prayed with for the services at our church. I had not been praying with them during this time. They offered me their kwanza hut on their property and gave me $9,000 worth of free rent!
I was then hired as a graduate assistant and the chair of my department hired me as a graduate/teaching assistant. Now I pay rent and work another part-time job. The doctorate is about finished debt free. God certainly provided!
